Education
I am an undergraduate Microbiology major and I plan to graduate with Honors in the Spring of 1998.  In addition to my research position, I have been actively involved in several OSU organizations including HELIX--the Biological Sciences Honorary and the OSU Student Chapter of the American Society for Microbiology in which I am currently the Vice President.  For my efforts in the Biological Sciences I was awarded the Louis G. Bernstein Memorial Scholarship in the Biological Sciences.

Interests
I began working at this lab in the spring of 1996 in order to gain experience with undergraduate research.  I came to be acquainted with Dr. Smith and his research through the Honors Biology course he teaches. I became very interested in the molecular neuroscience work being done in his lab and the possible human applications with respect to learning and memory.  I have been very fortunate to be able to augment my cellular course work with excellent experience in both macroscopic and molecular research at the Honey Bee Lab.  I am currently conducting experiments that target the antennal lobes of the honey bee with drugs that inhibit or alter the effect of the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (nos) in order to assess the ability of the bee to recall memory of a learned odor with respect to other similar or dissimilar odors.
