My name is Sathees Chandra. I came to Rothenbuhler Honey bee lab to
work with Dr. Brain Smith as his graduate student in April, 1996. My interests
are learning beaviour of bees ( Apis mellifera) and the molecular analysis
of learning. As the first part of my research, I studied a learning phenomenon
called Latent Inhibition : when subjects are exposed to repeated odors
without reinforcement, that should result in retarded learning. At present
we have established two genetic lines - fast and slow learners - by reversal
learning training procedure. Our final objective of this project is to,
develop a qantitative trait loci map for fast and slow learner bees using
a Polyemerase chain reaction (PCR).
