Genus Protostephanus Cockerell, 1906 [Extinct]

Interpretation:
1. Prosternum on top of picture; head not shown;
2. Discrimen appearing as a dark longitudinal line on the upper half of the
picture;
3. All legs retracted under the body;
4. Right hind leg (your left) showing the following:
4.1. coxa long and transversely striate;
4.2. femur more or less fusiform (externo-ventral view);
4.3. tibia strongly clavate;
4.4. basitarsus long and cilindric.
NOTE: This is the holotype of P. ashmeadi Cockerell, from the shales of
Florissant (Colorado, USA). The condition of the specimen is
very bad, and some features in this picture have been enhanced by especial
photographic techniques and image processing in a computer.
